How to Get Booked for Music Festivals
A practical guide for independent artists who want to land a slot at a festival. Prepare your materials, make a strong submission, and give promoters everything they need to say yes.
What festival promoters actually look for
Promoters review dozens, sometimes hundreds, of artist submissions. They are not just listening to your music, we are checking whether you are ready to perform and promote. A clear submission package helps them decide faster and with more confidence.
- Your live performance is tight and stage-ready.
- Your artist story is clear and easy to share.
- You have an active audience online and offline.
- You respond quickly and professionally.
Prepare your artist materials
Before you submit to any festival, gather your assets in one place. The Havers Festival artist onboarding asks for the same core package most promoters expect.
- Artist bio (short + long versions)
- Professional press photos
- Music links (Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud)
- Video links (live sets, music videos)
- Social media links
- Website or Linktree
- Electronic press kit (EPK)
- Recent flyers or promo graphics
- Stage plot / tech rider (if available)
- Contact information and booking email
Build a strong EPK
An Electronic Press Kit is your festival résumé. It should open with your best press photo, include a short bio, link to your best music and videos, and list your social proof. Keep it one page if possible, or link to a single landing page that has everything.
Make sure the EPK matches your stage name and branding. Promoters often forward it to marketing, press, and sponsorship teams, so it needs to speak for you even when you are not in the room.
Write a bio that promoters can use
Write two versions: one paragraph (50–75 words) for festival lineups, social posts, and email intros, and a longer version (150–250 words) for press releases and website pages. Include where you are based, your genre, your biggest releases or performances, and what makes your live show stand out.
Link your socials and music the right way
Promoters will click your links. Use one clean Linktree or a short artist website that leads to your Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Remove dead links. Test every URL on mobile. If your most recent release is older than a year, make that clear or release something new before you submit.
Submit early and follow up professionally
Festivals plan lineups months in advance. Submit early, follow the application instructions exactly, and keep your message short. If you do not hear back in two to three weeks, send one polite follow-up with a direct link to your EPK and a recent highlight — a new single, a video, or an upcoming show.
